AUG

The Austrian AUG( Army Universal Gun) is a modern bullpup in 5.56x45mm.Adopted in 1977, it had a groundbreaking plastic design, had a rapidly-detachable barrel, and unlike anything else at the time, came standard with optical sight. Standard barrel length is fourteen-, sixteen-, and twenty four-inch lengths also exist and can be easily installed.

The weapon utilized a front forward grip, a feature now copied by many military rifles. Steyr claims the scope/mount are nearly indestructible. The rifle offers a short overall length. The drawback is a poor trigger pull due to the linkage involved. Parts for a left-handed shooter are available, but not likely to be found in the field. If you shoot it off the opposite shoulder, you must use great care no to put your face where a fired case will strike it. The large trigger guard allows me to shoot it with winter mitten in place, and the safety is fast to operate. On selective-fire AUG rifles, pulling partially back yields semi-fire, while a full pull to rear result in full-auto fire. Rate of fire is around 900 rpm in my test but, thanks to the straight line stock, is quite controllable. the cleaning kit in the butt of the rifle is nice, and current versions have all the typical rails on them for all the fashionable lights and sights to be installed.
